Here are five ways in which I have learned to manage stress during recovery without resorting to self-medication with drugs and alcohol, going for a walk, taking a hot bath, meditating, keeping a diary, practicing yoga & by breathing deeply, cooking and eating a healthy meal, reading a book, picking up the phone and calling for their sober support.. .
When you are experiencing feelings of being overtaken by a desire or a compelling need to consume, it is helpful to locate a distraction to take your mind off of what you are going through. Discuss the matter with the individual who is paying for your sponsorship.
Never give up on your recovery goal. Instead, consider relapse as a brief return to addictive behavior.
